The JD600
The Industrial version of the agricultural 4020
Built 1964-1970
See a great website about the normal 4020, here!

The JD600 replaced the 4010 Wheel at the 1964 model year. The JD600 had basically the same changes as the 4010 Wheel, plus a option, for the Power-Shift transmission. It had eight forward speeds and four reverse, with moving gear changes possible. It was also changed to use a two lever shift. The Syncro-Range transmission was still available.

Here is a list of the differences of the JD600 from the 4020...

  • Cast iron nose frame, for increased weight and protection of the fuel tank
  • Sheet metal made with 10 gauge steel
  • Industrial style grill, flat
  • Frame
    • Rails larger and stronger
    • Holes drilled in different pattern from agricultural versions
    • Frame made with 6 inch C-channel steel
    • Frame extends farther back onto transmission case than ag versions
  • Tread size fixed
  • Larger rear axle housings, with better bearings and axles
  • Heavier Front axle
  • Steering-Uses frame mounted hydraulic cylinders, not motor
  • Two lever gear shifting
    • Right lever shift through all gears
    • Left lever shift through high-low-reverse ranges
    • Left lever located at original position of rockshaft lever
  • Rockshaft lever relocated to right side of seat

You may have noticed that the list is exactly the same as the 4010 Wheel. As far as I know, the changes were the same. The JD600 was available with a gas or diesel engine. All the hitch, and hydraulic options of the 4020 were also available for the JD600. Most of that was probably left off as there was usually no need for them.

A special version of the JD600 was introduced in late 1966. It was called the:

JD600 Pipeliner Special
Built 1966-1968

The JD600 Pipeliner Special was used for laying pipelines (as the name suggests!). It usually was equipped with a #648 bulldozer, a #93A center mounted backhoe or #95A multi position backhoe, and a #3500 sideboom. Few other details are known.
