My Daughter's 1970 vintage 56 riding mower has a real, original and freshly rebuilt V60 Tecumseh engine. It was equipped with the factory electric start, unknown to me when the Father-in-law did the engine at his rebuild business.
The starter was long gone before I bought it and I didn't consider the possibility of electric start and updating by installing a 12V charging stator in the engine when it was apart. The 12V wallwart charger doesn't appeal except for having it to keep an "accurate looking" restoration.
My JD parts manual doesn't state the charging system amperage?
I've found a Kohler 237335 / 41-403-06 15A regulator that is Tecumseh compatible. And a Tecumseh # 610749 10 amp regulator.
I also found TC-610965, TC-610983,TC-61106,TC-14120012 listed as Tecumseh stator charging systems. However no cross reference to which engine. Or if these part numbers are just a stator or is the stator & regulator as a matched package.

Hi B&D. Originally this mower would have had no onboard charging system, you had to use the wall mounted trickle charger to keep the battery up. You might look in the model 60 & 70 lawn tractor parts books to see if you could use the stator from them (they would have had the VH60/VH70 engines instead of the V60 like you have). I'd have to look to find the charging output, but I don't think it was very much, just enough to charge the battery and run the optional light kit. Seeing as how many of the 60/70's have rods poking out of the blocks, this might not be a bad way to go if you want to convert your 56 to onboard battery charging.
