Here's some pictures of my John Deere G #38136. When I picked it up last week. It has bin sitting the this building for about 20 years. Put some gas in the tank and she came alive. It had some water in transmission about 5 gallons of water. I had to put a heater under the rearend of the John Deere G to melt the ice out. I well be posting more pictures in a few weeks of the tear down.
Here's a link to the pictures.

I added some more pictures of the tear down of the head and bock. The crank was in very good shape, and the head looked to be in good shape to. I'm going to flush out the rear end this weekend, and put some new oil in the transmission. After I scrub it all up. If there is anything I should do in cleaning of the transmission let me know.
Thanks,
Eric Miller

Yes I'm going to repaint it was in pretty good shape. But when I was doing the tear down found the countershaft in the trans. was broke. I replaced it. But to get that counter shaft out I had to remove the other gears in the trans.

I just got my crank back from Mike Williams the other day. I have to say he doe's very good work on redoing the clutch driver splines on my crank shaft. They were wore about 60 thousands on the clutch driver side. And he also turned the crank down for me. The mains were fine but the rod journals had to be turned 10 thousands that is nothing. I will be adding some new pictures of the crank shaft in a few days. If you need a crank ever redone give Mike Williams a call at 1-563-243-3023.
Thanks'

I added some new pictures of the tear down of the axles on the John Deere G. Any idea's on how to remove the bearing cups on the rear axle casting. I had a slid hammer puller with a 2.5 lb slid hammer. It moved the one bearing cup abot 1/16 of an inch and thats all. They must be in there pretty snug. Any ideas would be helpful.

Have you tried heating them moderately and letting them cool back down. Sometimes that works pretty well. If they are being replaced, you could always try the weld bead on them trick. They should pop right out after that.

720Deere,
I got them out but do you all know that the race is no longer being made by Timken. I found them but they cost me $320.00 each race. There is no other CO. that makes a race of that size of 5.50 in. So once the #47621 races that are on the shelves are gone that means no more of them. Good luck if you need to replace them on your tractors once they are all gone.

Glad to hear that everything worked out okay. That's one heck of a pile of money for a race!

720Deere,

Yes that is alot of money for the races #47621 but what do you do if you need to replace them. They should never wear out but there was alot of water in the transmission. I just got them from UPS today.

I guess I'm lucky that there was still some of them left on the shelves. I should have the John Deere G back together in the spring sometime.

When I get it all done the G will be like Brand new. I changed all of the bearings, and anything else that need fixed or replaced.

I add a gear ratios chart for the John Deere G tractors. I counted all the teeth on the gears on my John Deere G and I made a chart for 4 different tire sizes also. Just go to my web page and look at gear ratio tab.

Lucky me...I know of a back door...I have bought new races and bearings for my '43 B and only paid $320 for everything in the tranny...rear axle races were only $5.00 apiece. Sounds awfully dumb to pay 300 bucks for a race when you can get the same one new for 10 bucks..

Deere Factor,
The races on 43 B axles are 3.50 to 4.00 inch and on a 49 G axle races are 5.50 inch. And Timken doesn?t make them any more and no one else makes a race of 5.50 inch to cross it to. So you pay what you have to if you can find them. And were can you get the new races for $10.00 I would like to know were you can find part #47621 is the races that I paid $300.00 for. I think you are full of sh#t you can't get them for $10.00. I checked every were.

andy_b,
He could have but, I think he thought they were not obsolete Timken part #47621 no cross over #'s at all, they are obsolete. In the mean time I found a second set of them in Md at a bearing shop that was closing up for business. So if anyone else needs them I got a whole other set of them. I found a second set of the Timken part #47621 witch is the cups that they are obsolete. I bought the last ones on the shelves, and found Timken part #47685 witch is the cone bearing they still make. The Timken cups #47621 fit John Deere G tractors serials G10241 to G48399 the years are late 1940 to early 1951. I paid $1580.00 = 4 cups and 4 cone bearings for the ones that I bought from A&W Bearings in Texas there is no more of the part #47621 left anywhere you mite find them in some old part store. They mite fit other John Deere tractors axles I'm not shore.

I just up dated my web site on the progress of my 1949 John Deere G. Look under the final assembly tab. I put the cam in and also put the crank in the tractor. It is starting to look like a tractor again. It should be done in the spring. I can?t paint any more until then. So can?t wait till spring gets here.

finaly assembly 2. I know it's been along time to get it to the point were it is at now. But it is coming together really nice now. The front frame is bolted up, and the rear end is all bolted up also. It is starting to look like a tractor again. I hope I have it all together and painted in a month or so. It is going to be really nice when I'm all done. It was fun doing this restoration on my G but it took along time to get to this point.

JohnnyA,
Thanks for the comment on my 49' G. It took along time to get it to were it is now, I'm almost done with it. Soon I will be putting up some more pictures of the finished tractor. As for the gear ratio chart it was just something I put together for anybody that wanted to know if they change there rear tire to a different size.
Thanks again.
