Hi Fellas, I have a JD 317 tractor and need a universal drive shaft.
OEM replacement part # AM37875 cost is $190.00 from Deere, has anyone had success making their own? The front yoke is broken and twisted on mine.

Thank's for any help.

The simple answer is, yes, you can sucessfully make one yourself. Big problem seems to be finding the U-joints that are small enough (not much clearance under there) and rated for the speed and torque. Many people have reported getting them made at driveline shops for far less than Deere's price.
I need another one too. I would fork out the big bucks if I thought it would be the last one needed, but I doubt the new one with grease fittings would last any longer than the previous version. I feel the one on mine needs to be about 1/2" longer to work better, and longer. I would like to get one built at a shop that specializes in drive shafts but will have to look far from home to find one.
Good luck with your 317.

Tommyhawk Thank You for the reply, I found the yoke at TSC for $42 each without the joint.
So it looks like JD's price isn't so bad.
