What do you folks do for maintaining your RV battery. the one in my 5th wheel is and enclosed one, course I can take the cover off. I am not a leave it plugged in all the time guy. I am installing a disconnect switch and will be leaving it sitting disconnected for sometimes 3 months. What do you folks think. Am I good to go or is a maintiner worth the hastle?

i'd go the maintaniner bit. batteries that are discharged will freeeze and die. just one less thing you have to remember to do before you get ready touse it next time. just place the power cord going to it where you'll see it and remebmber to unplug it before driving off. not a lot of difference in having to run out the night befoere and plug in the charger. you can probably drill a couple of holes in the box to fish the leads through and just leave it plugged up all the time and just unplug the extension cord. you might find a cheap one at a place thatr sellls used boats

My 5th wheel (and I thought most all of them) has a built in battery charger/maintainer. Any time the camper is plugged in so is the battery so I just leave mine plugged up all the time. I guess if you don’t want to do that then you could install one of the $3 battery post disconnects on it and stick a regular charger on it every once in a while. That’s what I do with my boat. I give all 3 batteries a full charge and every 3 or 4 months I try to remember to top them off. I use a fully automatic charger just in case I forget to unhook it.
I do got to admit my camper battery has recently went bad, it is about 8 years old though. The boat batteries are getting around 5 years old so they are probably next.
Anybody ever count how many batteries they have? This post got me thinking and my estimate is I currently have about 16 $100 batteries I have to keep up and I bet dad has over 25 to 30!

I use a battery maintainer that I picked up. Mustang sits all winter and so far so good.
