Happy Independence Day everyone Hope everyone stays safe.
We are still the greatest nation in the world despite what the Apologist in Chief has tried to say otherwise to other nations!

Happy belated 4th to all. Hope it was a safe and enjoyable day for everyone. Spent mine with She Who Must Be Obeyed, our son, and his girlfriend. Can't ask for much more than that.

You're right Choo, in spite of what you read, and what's being said, this IS the greatest country in the world. Yeah, we've got our warts, and our faults, and we've made mistakes along the way. But the event we celebrated yesterday is what sets us apart from any other nation on earth. 233 years of the "American experiment of self-government under law" and it's still working. It works in spite of the nay-sayers, in spite of the envy, in spite of the hatred from other countries. It works, quite frankly, because of what those 56 brave, insightful, God-fearing men who signed the Declaration of Independence set forth that day in 1776. Those noble beginnings, coupled with our Constitution are what makes this country what it is.

Every year on the 4th, I read the Declaration of Independance and the Constitution. I've been doing that for years because I think it's important to remember how this nation was born and what our forefathers wanted this nation to become. I would encourage everyone to look at those two documents and to think about what they mean to us today. Every year when I read the Declaration, I'm struck by the final sentence, under which all those great men signed their names. "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." Consider that for a while. It's a pretty humbling statement.

I really like your tradition of reading both the Declaration and the Constitution, I think I will start that tradition in my household. Thanks for the idea.

I would also like to say I had a great 4th, first we had some target practice and shot some skeet then we cooked out and played cards then the next day we went to a tractor show then to a TEA party (which was very inspiring) and next we took the boat out and watched the local fireworks show over the lake and the next day we were free to go to church then rest. I’m proud I live in a country where I am free to do all of that stuff and tote a pistol in my pocket while I’m at it.

It is important to remember what this holiday is all about (and it aint fireworks and grilling)
