I am bummed out on finding expertice locally on paint. The color I am working on now is for Persian Orange #2. The PPG nuber is DAR60396. I was satisfied with the color of the PPG but started encountering hardening problems and could not figure it out and got no help from the local small time supplier.

So I thought I would try DuPont Centari or the Nason line since the neighbor had painted an airplane with it and I liked the looks and finish. Ran into another problem at the local DuPont store. Between spitting in his coke can and sorting thru all the junk on the oounter I don't think the youngster sitting back there knows squat.

Anyhow he mixed a quart and said this is what you want. I took it home and tried a swipe on some already painted parts. No way. I called him back since the can had some kind of General Motors Red label and he said he called DuPont and that should do it. I told him that if he told me he was gonna take a "whack" at it I would not have bought.

The guys on the allis board havenot got a cross yet. Anyone here have a handy dandy reference?

I am thinking thst probably next week I will take the 176 bucks worth of stuff in the box back and get a refund on what I can and look up the NAPA suppler next or maybe search the yellow pages for a more competent supplier in Springfield, IL. unsure.gif

Dave;
If you can find a Dupont dealer that has been around for 30 years or so, he should still have the books that have the origonal code. They don't like to spend time searching them, but if you get a good OLD counter guy, he might let you do it. PPG & Du Pont stores can also call their supplier and get the cross reference code when it is a standard color as well as obsolete farm machenery codes.

Your supplier should have one of those new fangled color matching computer's. They can take your painted part & the computer will read it & get danged close. That's what I had to do to get a code for the old Ford 800, but I had to go with the Chromabase to get an exact match. If it's in the ballpark at all, a good paint mixer can fix what you have.

Good luck with your project.

PPg has an excellent website with actual photos of problem conditions. It also has the proper mixing directions for all of their products. I don't have the website address, but do a google search for PPG. You may already have all the paint and additives you need and just have to adjust the ratio of the mix.
