Anyone know when Ford changed from he light blue engine paint to the darker blue? I'm thinking it was the mid seventies but not sure???

Gonna do some more searching but figured someone here might have that stored away in their memory banks?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob;
Having it stored in the old hard drive & the processor being able to find it are two different thing's. LOL

It's been so long ago I can't remember, but for some reason the late sixties came to mind. I was thinking the color change came along with the 302 & the 351 Cleveland. That would put it in late 68. The light blue was fairly short lived if I remember correctly.

Post back when you find out for sure. I'd like to know how far off my memory actually is. LOL

I agree with M-Man. I had a 1964 Ford Econoline with a 170 ci that I think was light blue and I replaced it with a 200 ci from a 1968 or 1969 and it was dark blue. These questions sure are hard. LOL

A 1970 351 Cleveland I had was the light blue but it could've been repainted before I got it?? I remember I had put an add in the paper when I was 16 for a 69-70 Cleveland. I barely had enough to run the add let alone buy a motor. A guy responded who was just a few miles away and I went and looked at it. He had a couple kids and I talked him into trading even up for a ten speed bike I had. His kids got a nice bike and I got a factory 11.4 to 1 motor with the four barrel quench heads and a 71 spread bore intake and carb. That motor was sweet. Crammed it in a crusty 67 mustang with a box truck C6 squoze in behind it. A real sleeper that one was. Heavy as heck and a little greasy in the turns but would scream on the straight aways.

Well... Seeing that the motor I'm painting is far from stock I suppose it won't really matter what color I go with as far as maintaining purity so I'm gonna go with the light blue anyway. I like it better than the later blue. I do have the original motor for my 69 over in the other building but my recollection of it was it was a black-ish brown? (humor) Could scrape some crud off it and see but heck with it... I'm goin' light blue.

This new motor is gonna be nice. Pump gas 390 and supposed to get around 450 hp per the builder. It ought to pull the hills around here very well.

I don't exactly remember when either, but I love them both! Long live the Blue Oval!!
