70 DS
I started putting the 70 together today. I soaked the pistons in buckets of gas for a week to try and soften the carbon up. One cleaned up really easy but the second one was a bear. I put the pistons in and have the head on. I adusted the valves, put the injectors in and lines on. The fuel system is bled out. I hope to have it running tomorrow. I want to take it out and pull it to warm it up good so I can bring it back in and retorque the head bolts. I just have to put the pony motor on, the generator, the exhaust manifold, and the bottom water pipe. Then fill up the fluids and I think that is about it. I wish I had a cherry picker that pony motor is a heavy little bugger. I took my camera with me to take some pics and I left it laying out in the shop. I will post some pics when I get done.

Well the 70 lives again. Had a little trouble with the fuel system being air locked. but once we looked again at the manual and bled it out all the way it fired right up. rolleyes.gif Oopsie. laugh.gif It seemed to run good. I took it out a pulled the ripper around a little bit to warm it up so I could re torque the head. I am really glad to see it sitting in a different spot in the shop for a change. Plus it sure was good to hear it run and drive it. Hear are some pics.
My very messy work area. rolleyes.gif

I helped my brother with a chrome tip for his Dodge yesterday in between working on my 70. Not too bad for costing him nothing and me 15 minutes to weld it up for him. He can't run a stick welder. Plus welding to that stainless exhaust pipe is kind of a pain.

Here are some videos. The first one is cranking with an air lock in the fuel system.

Clayton, Could you post a photo of the ripper out of the ground?

Here is the ripper hooked on the 730 diesel. I can get some better pics of it next time I am out at the farm if you want me to. It is an IH.
