n "middle-ages" they were running all over the world trying to "conquer" the world. Later, they even tried to do it here. Only one problem -- the british ran into a bunch of farmers with "squirrel guns " and wooped their donkey ! ! They tried again in the war of 1812, they did conquer our White House, ate the dinner that was prepared for our president and then "burned" the White House down, only for them to get wooped again, by farmers with squirrel guns. Yes, they are are "alies" now. With friends like that who needs enemies.
The British were not trying to conquer the Americas, they had been settling the Americas. The Americas were a colony. The Americas revolted against Brittan for unfair taxes levied on them by The Crown. These taxes had been levied without any representation from the Colonies. This was an especially difficult war because of the closeness the colonies felt to England. Americans were Englishmen first. This kinship has endured to this day despite our differences.
However, I must say that the taxes we fought over are a paltry sum when compared to the taxes we tolerate today, and we HAVE representation.
The War of 1812 was started by
US because of the Brittish practice of impressment of U.S. sailors. Also because of trade restrictions and support of Indian uprisings by England. The point is
WE declared war. They were bullying us it is true, but they were not trying to take us back.
I am not defending or condemning the Brittish, just setting the historical facts straight. If you're going to dislike someone, then you should make sure you have the facts straight.
