This 1951 John Deere MT was bought around 1959 By my Great grandfather for his 2nd tractor. It came with mounted cultivators and planters. We parked it in the back of an old tenant house in the 90’s. I dug it out and started fixing it in 2007-2008.

It had no major mechanical problems except for a stuck valve and rotted out radiator, all 4 tires held air, fluids looked like tar or dog poop. Fairly easy fix up job.

Here it is when we first pulled it out of the shed and brought it home;

Here it is getting a few mechanical repairs and maintenance;

Now it is time for final cleaning and painting. This was my first project so I made some mistakes. This was before I discovered Dollar General oven cleaner is better than Family Dollar oven cleaner. I also didn’t put as much prep work in it and I made the huge mistake of using cheap enamel Majic brand paint from a local parts store. It looked good at first but quickly faded out.
I decided that in the interest of originality and to show how good of shape they were in that I would not do any body work or dent repairs on any of the tractors. (plus I aint real good at bondo)

4th and 5th generation helping me with the decals (my sister and daughter);

And here is the best part, I did this without my Grandpa’s knowledge, This picture is when I surprised him with it and he first saw the tractor. I can’t say enough about how much I love this picture;

And finally nearly a year later the rest of the flock rejoins her on the farm for Christmas, notice how much the paint has faded in less than a year;
