Wellllllllllll, last year when we spent our first retirement winter in Mission Texas in the Rio Grande Valley I put off Bingo and Shuffleboard claiming I was tooooooo young n it was for "old people" lol
Butttttttttt this year (wintering in Sebring Florida) its now official and Im reallyyyyyyy retired cuz I PLAYED BINGO ANDDDDDDDD SHUFFLEBOARD
You might guess, when I checked in at Bingo and they asked how many cards I wanted to play and I responded two, they kind of snickered (ROOKIE). When I sat down I saw people 20 yrs older then I WHO HAD FANCY WOOD FRAME HOLDERS AND PLAYED 6 TO 8 CARDS WOWWWWWWWW
Next day Im asked to learn shuffleboard soooooooo guess again these dudes 20 yrs my senior kicked my A$$ and horse laughed me lol. Any time I was lucky enough to land in the points they immediately hit my puck landing me in the kitchen (looses 10 points) with their puck replacing mine in the points
Were finally getting decent at Square Dancing after a ton of lessons n workshops n a year of practice,,,,, but we were dancing and danced a tip n sat down to rest n people 20 yrs our senior saw us all tuckered out n said "You kids just arent in shape yet"
Aint life grand
See some of you next summer at the New York Expo and maybe Two Cylinder Expo or maybe the next Gathering of the Green

John sharpens the skills and move back to Texas or down the coast or better yet show them your banjo skills.
30 years ago, wife and I square danced but the caller kept saying "Clay the other left" so my wife give up on me.
I'm planning a winter retirement some year to Minn or Canada for Ice Fishing, what will be the challenge, 6-8 holes? lol
Enjoy

I don't know about you John T. I'm with OCB, retirement winters would be best spent boring holes in the ice and pulling fish through them. Now, I'm not saying that I wouldn't enjoy some shuffleboard (looks like a great game to me), but it's that whole "gotta go someplace warm" thing that has me worried. Maybe Curling would be better. It's kinda the same only it's played on ice! And I sure can't see spending time inside playing bingo or square dancing.
Here's a suggestion. Come next winter (if'n you can clear it with the First Wife), you and OCB just head on up here and we'll spend the winter ice fishing and doin' outdoor kinda of things. Boy, it just don't get no better than when the snot freezes in your beard, your eyebrows stick together 'cause they're frozen, and you have to drink your beer in a hurry 'fore it turns to slush. That there is livin' high and wide in the winter time! Course, I keep forgettin that your from the "tropical" part of Indiana, and haven't built up a tolerance to that type of thing.
Seriously though, sounds like you're having a great time. Soak it all in John T. That's what you worked for all those years. By the way, find any other old sparky types down there? Seems like there should be a few of us that kept their fingers from touching the wrong things and made it to retirement age...
Anyway, enjoy yourself but don't linger down there too long. We don't need you going "native" on us.

John, my parents winter in Sebring as well, and they love it. My father retired in 2000 after a fourty year teaching career. They have been down there for about five years now. My mother tells me that it starts to get to hot and humid around early March. There is a restaraunte that you might want to check out that my parents and other relatives go to and rave about called Homers. It's buffet style, and the food is good so they say. My sister family liked it and they are picky eaters. I havn't had the chance to go and see them yet because I can't afford it yet. I hope to go down next year. Enjoy retirement because I'm sure you've earned it.
Have you made your reservations for the Expo yet? I made mine a couple of weeks ago at the Microtel in Victor, New York. I called alot of places and they are filling up fast.

Maurie,
I guess Ima gettin old n wimply cuz my "old bones" just dont tolerate cold as well,,,,,,,ridin bikes n pickin a banjo on the patio in shirtsleeves just appeals to me PLUS theres the Florida Flywheelers show to attend a couple times....... Havent found any sparkies, one dude told me he wanted the utility to "turn up the juice" on his transformer, I tried to explain how different taps might increase the voltage but he insisted NO IT WAS MORE JUICE lol........ Hey if you haver one of those heated ice fishing sheds with a bar and Tv and sofa etc I will be there lol
S Wheeler,
I havent tried Homers yet, will look into it. As far as the NY Expo, John Jensen always ropes off n saves me the same RV spot, I will probably give the same old tired Electrical Seminars but they keep askin me back sooooooooo I will be there. We stay at Lake Bonnet Village between Sebring and Avon Park on SR 17, where your folks at?????????
Unfortunately Im back in Indiana for a visit right now cuz my dear old mother has been feeble, we may head back south next week
Ol John T and all

My parents live in Fairmount Estates. My great aunt and uncle have a place in the same park. Hope your mother feels better. Have a safe trip back.
