Hi,

Just joined the Forum.............

I recently purchased a 1948 John Deere M, like I used to drive when I was young. It is the same as my Grandfather's old tractor. Although it is not the exact one, I hope to find it someday! smile.gif My grandfather was the original owner of a '48 M and I have the Title somewhere (moved a lot).................Maybe I can locate it if I get the VIN Number!

Anyway, I grew up on a small horse (20) farm in PA, but the business world took me a long way from home. sad.gif Did not have the land to make an agricultural go of things. So, I was traveling down the road last week for business and made it past a few John Deere's (and a Ford) and noticed the "M" was for sale. I thought I would stop and have a look, but the owner was not home. The thought of the old gal lurked in my mind all day..................So I called him back! rolleyes.gif Next thing I knew I was driving about an hour from where I was having dinner that evening to test ride the tractor. What a sweet running machine, a true pleasure to drive! I left there really torn, I do not "need" a tractor, what do I tell my wife?...................Nothing, I just called him back and said "I'll take it" (with a little haggling).

She is in nice shape, I am attaching a few photos, but it will look even better by the end of August! cool.gif My mechanical skills are much better than in my youth, good thing, I can sense an "addiction" coming on! Now I have a line a nice "MT" too................Anyone know a good divorce attorney! unsure.gif

I want to, once I figure out where the shows are scheduled..................I think it will be a lot of fun! I probably won't get it to a show until next Spring, I don't know how many there are in the Fall/Winter months?

Believe it or not, the "M" is currently getting a complete re-paint...................I'm having the tin worked perfectly smooth, putting in new grill screens and spraying it with a spray gun and hardner in the paint, for a smooth finish and shine. Dressing her off with Vinyl Decals and a Chrome Stack! cool.gif

Next July there is the New York State expo at Canandaigua, a show held once every two years and the biggest antique JD show on the planet.

It is a great show -I travelled three thousand miles to attend last year.
