Work at a CAT facility by day, tinker on my collection by night or lend a hand at the family farm, mainly a cow / calf operation , .... Dad's gone so my brother in law and I
Dad was a farmer / small earth moving contractor so I got acquainted at an early age to JD, International, some Case and Caterpillar. When I was a kid, many moons ago, .... I'm approaching retirement age now, I was at our local JD dealership with Dad and and my old "D" was hauled in on the delivery truck.
It was the late 60's and the dealer principal wasn't interested in tractor collecting that some guys were doing. I said, that old tractor would be fun to fix up and my dad looked shocked. Dad said we don't need that old "D" taking up space in the shed. The dealer said if Dan wants to fix it up I'll let him have it for $50 and he can work that out after school. Dad, said several other things, then he finally said, OK but you're not spending your 4-H money on that old piece of junk.
When the dealer delivered the D we realized it was a brass tag, two speed with a dry air cleaner it, it was in pretty good mechanical condition, so Dad and I got it running very soon. Since that time it's been restored 3 times and for the above reasons it's my favorite tractor.
As I said I grew up around other colors as well and I respect them too, the Deere's I have are: '31 D, '34 D, '37 A, '39 "transition" A, "40 "slant dash" A, '48 A, '40 un-styled G, 2 x '48 B's ( one w/ TSC Power block ) '54 70, '61 3010 ... family tractor and of course a GATOR! In addition I have 19 other rainbow toys, Caterpillar, International, Case and one lonely Oliver. I know there is a lot of knowledge and experience on the board, ... Looking forward to learning more about the family of yellow wheels !! Thanks, Dan Kennedy
