Hello all,

I hope there is some expertise here concerning Chevy trucks. I have a 1984 Chevy C-30 one ton flat bed I use to tow my trailer and for other things. The engine is shot and I am getting too old to keep banging the gears in the manual trans. I have a 91 model 350 engine with TBI. It is coupled to a rebuilt 4L60E trans. I have the complete vehicle so I have the wiring, computer and all. My idea is to install the engine, trans, and rear from the 91 into my 84. The 91, by the way, is a G30 mini bus. My concern is the strength of the 4L60E trans. How much load can I haul and still expect this trans to live a long life? It was expertly rebuilt with quality parts and has less than 500 miles on it. I will put a deeper pan on it to increase oil capacity and will put a good cooler on the truck. Any experience with towing with this trans?

Unless you are hauling some really heavy stuff, your rebuilt 4L60 should be fine, especially with the addition of a good cooler and larger oil pan.
