My name is John aka BlackSheep. I'm located in the Floating Capital of Missouri, Steelville. A small rural town about 90 miles south of St. Louis and 100 North of Springfield off the I-44 Corridor. Famous for it's streams and rivers for floating and recreation. This is primarily cattle country. Hard to grow anything in this clay rock we have.
Why am I here? Well, after 50 years, I got my lifes dream... a small farm (7 acres). And after 51 years I FINALLY got a tractor. I thought I was doing great to get a JD..... however, having now read a lot of material from a lot of different sources... seems what I bought may have been a mistake in mosts eyes, a 1010 with loader ( I do a LOT of corral/stable cleanout). So far, no complaints with mine..... other than the front end snapped the day I brought it home!!!! Needless to say, I'm a tad disappointed... but not discouraged. The tractor actually runs fantastic... gears are smooth. Few leaks on the hydraulics to fix but I'm pleased. Pulled the front end apart, welded the power steering shaft back together where it snapped and it's back up an running. NOTE TO SELF: Order new Tierod Ends before putting back in service..... they be the suspects for the failure.
So anyway, I'll stop rambling ... thanks for letting me join you in the quest for comradarie and advice and just good ole BS. And should any of you have a dead 1010 w/power steering sitting aroud that wants to get rid of some parts..... let me know!! I'd love to find a replacement shaft JUST IN CASE the weld don't hold.
Thanks and see ya soon!
