I painted my 46A manifold with silver auto exhaust manifold paint just to hide the rust. It held pretty well for over a year before the rust came back.

We used semi gloss gas barbeque paint. It is supposed to withstand over 1000 degrees.

There are a few extreme high temperature paints in McMaster Carr. We've used some of the stuff on our slot furnace here at work and it's held up well but it's very expensive. They're some kind of ceramic stuff.
Good old pot belly black paint for stoves as "gurneejoe" mentioned will hold up for a good while.

I use a product called POR15. Works over rust even. Try it out.
