GrandpasM

I've been lurking about this forum for the last year or so and now I figure it's time to let myself be known. I live in mid Michigan and have always been fascinated with old machinery. When I was a little one I spent my summers at my Grandparents and my Grandpa was big into his garden. He usually had around two acres planted of various vegetables. The tractor he used to work this with was a 1948 John Deere model M that he bought from my great uncle George. George had bought a Oliver 77 row crop and my Grandpa at the time was still working with horses (Sept 1961). Now the tractor has been passed to me. It has been languishing in my Grandmothers garage for nearly 20 years now since I've been busy with family and work and before that I was away in the Navy for 10 years. Finally I've decided it's time to work on the ol girl and it shouldn't be too difficult because it's been kept inside for all these years. The biggest problem is the rear tires were loaded with calcium chloride and it has leaked out all over the wheel webs. I'll post some pics in the restoration journal topic. I know I'll be here a lot and probably have a lot of questions. Luckily one of the things that I have with the tractor is the Model M service manual and I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of use out of that book. My name is Sean and from what I've seen this site is loaded with a bunch of really nice helpful people.
