Howdy. I'm new to this board, registered in the last few days. Here is a little background.

I'm from Southeast Nebraska. I had a life long friend that was a restorer and collector of two cylinder JD's. He passed away last summer. I grew up on a farm and we used red power exclusively. I remember back in the 50's my dad wanted to buy a tractor that I could use to help him out with the plowing, discing and other things. I told him he should buy a Deere, but he hated them and purchased another Farmall. Don't get me wrong, I like the Farmalls too, have a real affection for the H and M models. I wouldn't mind finding me an F20 or F30. I have always loved the John Deere "poppers" though and really always wanted one. Getting back to my deceased friend, his widow held an auction in November and sold most of this tractors in this auction. I ended up purchasing one of his, a1940 Model AN, (single front wheel). It's a hand cranker and makes me smile everytime I start her up. I love this old tractor and sort of felt like my departed friend was smiling down at me when I ended up with the successful bid on her. Now the tractor is no doubt part of me. I paid $1,200 for the old A and I have already had $1,200 worth of fun out of her, and I'm just getting started. I love to hear her "POP".

Welcome, I grew up on mostly A and B John Deeres. My best friends dad had a H and SH Farmall. We fought laugh.gif all time over which was best. I drove both the H and SH quite a bit. I liked both of them a lot, but of course would never tell him. Enjoy the board. There are some very good people here.

Welcome to the discussion board. I'm still getting used to the format, too. I spent many of my early years in your area. I live in western North Carolina now but miss it there and the cornhusker's football. I have an An also that I got from a family friend near Holdrege. It's a 1946 and needs restored. I have a 48 b that I use which I brought from my uncle's farm just east of Lincoln (Walton). My project now is the restoration of a 41 h for my wife. I'm changing it over from hand to electric start as I go. I know you are enjoying your tractor.
