Hi all, I'm another new guy, and a proud owner of a 1958 820, the tractor is solid, although the pony motor is complete, its not running, so I'm gonna go through the pony motor, and paint the tractor, the diesel, runs great and started after about 10 feet of pulling (after sitting 5 years) so I hope to have alot of fun playing with my new toy.

Did you paint yours yourself, beutiful paint job, just curious if you are paying for a paint job that looks as good as yours, what would that set ya back?(ballpark figure), I would like to paint mine myself, but I'm afraid of messing it up.
I've also looked up JD clutches, and at tractorrestorationparts.com they don't offer one for the old 820's, Mine seems to have some clutch problems, I think stuck a little from setting, if I loosen it up then it don't want to pull, it may just be that fine of an adjustmen, but I think maybe I have bigger problems, and it seems to be a fairly easy job, just might replace.

The October issue of Green Magazine has a good artical about the clutch in the JD two-cylinder tractors. I find that the clutches in the numbered series tractors have been negelected in as much as they have not been properly maintained. The owner manual says that they should have the bearing cleaned and repacked packed every year. This was not done in a lot of cases. You might want to look into that and see if it is in good condition.

Sorry for the slow reply Blackdash. I painted mine my self sometime ago, but that's not the whole story. It actually needs painted believe it or not. You catch alot of breaks in the evening sun in photography.
That said, I can't really say on a price. I'm shopping myself...

I'm just outside Indy in Zionsville, IN. I'm pretty new too so we have something in common.

Lots of Hoosiers here, me included. Now all we need to do is to figure out where the word "Hoosier" came from. People in Indiana have been arguing about that for longer than they've been arguing about what time it is.

If it is a Z'ville middle school I know which one you are talking about, if it is the one by a soccer complex and north of 334 and east of 65. Cool that someone is kinda close to me.
