Here is my 530 LP that I am currently restoring, I am going to have a lot of questions for you guys so I thought it would be nice if you could see what I'm working on. I bought the tractor a Polk's labor day auction, it runs great, the trans. makes some noise in 3rd. gear. The power stearing dosn't work, from what I hear the system is a little touchey so that should be fun.

As of today I have the engine tore down far enough to get a good Idea of what it needs. It apears to have been recently overhauled and should need very little work (I hope!). The transmision has some badly chiped gears and damaged bearings. I'll keep you posted on what's hapening.

My 530 is now not much more that two big piles of parts and a set of rims and tires. I am woking of on getting all of the parts I need to put the engine, transmission, and rear end back together.
Everything in the transmission works but there are a lot of chipped and badly worn gears that need repalcing. Something bad happened in there at some time, it looks like whoever fixed it only replaced what was necasary to make it go and no more. The threads on the lower transmission shaft were damaged and so the lock nut was left off. There were a few more parts missing that the mechanic must have thought were unneceary. The main case was cracked so I decided to replace it aslo. It all adds up to a large chunk of change to properly fix the transmission.
The engine needs a valve job, new rings, and new main bearings.

Wow, big job.
My A is almost in that many pieces but not quite. I guess it is time to up-date my journal.

Looks good. Keep us posted.

I just sandblasted my 530LP to start restoring it. I did one several years ago and put all my fancy parts such as weights wide front poweradjust wheels dual remotes etc and promptly lost it in a deevorce. Have been trying to buy this one for 10 years and finally got it done. I am familiar with your tractor as it came from right down the road--or at least I think that is the one. What is the serial #? If it is the one I think it never had much TLC. I will probablly run into some of the same stuff but hope not. This tractor is an extremely low hour one owner. Am mainly going through it not to leave anything to chance but there are always surprises. I am doing 2 50 LP's at the same time and just finished 2 520 LP 's. Will be happy to help and share any way I can. My phone # is 501 681 3413.

Unfortunately my tractor has no serial tag. I do know that it was originally sold in Brownsville TN and has had 3 owners before me, all in TN. I talked to the son of the original owner, the JD dealer in Brownsville, and a few others, hoping to find record of the serial # but had no luck. It is a high hour tractor and dose not appear to have gotten a lot of TLC, but no terrible abuse either, just lots of use.
I just finished reassembling the transmission and rear axel. I put in all new bearings and pto shaft bushings, along with a lot of good used parts including, main case, countershaft with gears, pto shafts and sliding gear, and 1st. and 3rd. sliding gear, and differential. The transmission is now in good shape, however my bank account is not. My next step is to put the rear axel, rear wheels, and front frame back on. I don?t have a lot of free time right now but I hope to have it looking more like a tractor and less like a pile of parts by the end of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

I doubt if it would be the one that came from here then. If you know for certain it was shipped to Brownsville the serial number register would sure narrow it down as they didnt likely sell many. I guess you would never know for sure. I will look through mine and see if it shows any 530 LPs shipped to Brownsville.. However, on several of mine that I know were bought new locally at one of two stores, the production register only shows Memphis Branch. If that is true of yours, it wouldnt help any.
I found two more surprises in mine- a bent connecting rod and a galled up cam lobe and cam follower. It is my first bent rod in one of these tractors but it is the second 5 series LP in a row I have done that had a galled up cam. In both cases it was # one exhaust. The engine ran perfectly. I guess that is another good reason to tear them down anyway.

I have the transmission and most of the engine back together, once I get the govener and stuff done I will start on the stearing pedestal and rolo-matic.
