Full Version: What Have We Done?

critter
Well, yesterday my husband and I tore into my little 40C crawler that we purchased last month. Of course, the further you take the thing apart, the more you find that you need to do. Someone had welded the midframe and didn't put the input shaft and the carrier shaft together right, so that is that much more work which needs done. Dennis turned to me and said "you know that since we'll have it down this far, we should paint it now." I totally agree, but wish that we had a better garage and set-up to work on it. I feel another trip to PA to get parts coming on in the near future.

I definitely believe that it will be well worth it when it all comes together, but it is getting it together which will be the interesting part. I just started back to work after a 5 month strike (machinist at a chemical plant), and we have a 10-month old son so things are interesting enough as it is. Son is asleep and father is cutting wood, so I'm trying to catch up on things which I want to do.

Got home from work and went out to the garage building with the husband this evening. He's got the crawler down to the tracks and transmission, and is getting ready to take it down completely. I'm off work tomorrow, and if I can find someone to watch the son, we'll work on it all day. It sure looks different from when it was brought home! I've got some pictures, and if I can figure out how to get them on here, I'll share our journey.
