Is the gear shift on 39 JD H different than all other years?? Is it compatible with all other years

Some of the parts will interchange but overall the 39 is set apart from the rest. The shift quadrant is taller, the cover itself has a different part number, the lever and ball are different i would suspect that it is longer but not sure.
